Today I did something I haven't done in a very long time. I gave my scalp some much needed tlc.
So often I've written about loc maintenance, care, cleanliness, etc but I've admittedly ignored my scalp. I keep it clean, I avoid buildup but it seems that I forgot that it's skin requiring the same care as the rest of my skin.
I do spray it with a leave-in when it itches but I seldom use oils as I used to when I was a loose natural. I oiled and massaged my scalp today. It felt heavenly! I dug around and found a steam cap and used it on my moisturized scalp. My locs were outside of the cap, I was more interested in opening up my pores so all the nourishing oils would be fully absorbed.
Its only been a half hour since steaming but my scalp feels worlds different. If you read my blog, you know how anal I am about avoiding buildup. It seems I took cleanliness to the extreme and parched my poor scalp. Find the balance folks. Beware of sulphates but find a good clarifier. Beware of buildup but find a good moisturizer. Beware of being heavy handed with product but don't leave your hair and scalp thirsty.
Find that balance.
Later all!
